What is Action Research?

Hornsea Community Primary School is a learning community. We are all learning all of the time.

We believe that "Every teacher (and TA) needs to improve, not because they are not good enough, but because they can be even better” – Dylan Wiliam.

Action research is a common sense approach to personal and professional development that enables teachers and other staff in schools to investigate and evaluate their work and to seek to improve their practice. They ask practical questions such as:

  • What is my concern?
  • Why does it concern me?
  • What can I do about it?
  • What will I do about it?
  • What is the effect of my actions?
  • How do this improve outcomes for children?

Action research is being piloted this year at HCPS and all members of staff have the opportunity to become involved if they so wish.
