Year 6 Autumn Term 2017
The children in Year 6 have made a very positive start to the term.
This week, they have been participating in a variety of activities to 'hook' them in to their new geography topic entitled 'Nature's Miracles'. Some classes have been making models out of marshmallows and spaghetti as a way to demonstrate different buildings abilities to withstand earthquakes! Other classes have been mixing ingredients to create chemical reactions to simulate volcanic eruptions!
The children are also looking forward to the Community Sports Day on Friday 8th September.
There are many more exciting events panned this half term, not least the residential trip to Caythorpe Court.

Year 6 Summer Term 2
The Year 6 children have lots of exciting events to look forward to this half term. They have already begun peer mentoring - assisting younger pupils with their learning - throughout the school. Preparation for the transition process to Hornsea School and Language College has also started and the children will soon commence a transition project about Citizenship and British Values.
Soon we will begin preparing our Year 6 Leavers' Performance, which is always lots of fun!
We have started our new science topic 'To Infinity and Beyond' and have been visited by the 'Cosmodome' from York University.
There will also be a variety of sporting events and activities taking place throughout the half term.
We wish the children a happy and enjoyable final half term at Hornsea Community Primary School.

Year 6 Summer Term 1
The Year 6 staff hope the children and their families enjoyed the Easter holiday. The children have returned from the break eager to work hard and make progress.
In Year 6, we are currently working very hard, preparing for the National Curriculum Tests which are taking place during the week commencing Monday 8th May.
We are also having lots of fun with our creative art topic Sensational Sculpture'.
We wish the children a hard working and happy summer term.

Year 6 Spring Term 2
The Year 6 staff hope the children and their families enjoyed the half term holiday. The children have returned from the break eager to work hard and make progress.
The Year 6 pupils have already participated in a 'Bugtopia' workshop to introduce our new Science-based topic 'Survival of the species', in which they had the opportunity to hold all kinds of 'creepy-crawlies'! We also enjoyed dressing up as our favourite book characters and participating in World Book Day.
Year Six have a hard-working half term ahead of us, preparing for the National Curriculum Tests in May. The Year Six staff wish the children all the best with the up-coming tests.

Please note that World Book Day will be on Thursday 2nd March 2017. Part of the celebrations this year will involve the children dressing as their favourite book character. We're looking forward to an exciting day! Thank you for your continued support.
Year 6 Spring Term 1
The Year 6 pupils have made a great start to the new school term . We have all taken part in a history 'hook' day, in which we travelled through time, visiting different time periods in 6 different classrooms.
We have also participated in a maths mission day linked to our history topic of 'Crime and Punishment' through the ages.
This term, we have a lot of challenging learning to complete in preparation for the National Curriculum tests in May. We also have plenty of fun activities planned too, such as a trip to York Castle Museum.

Year 6 Autumn Term 2
The Year 6 children had an amazing time at Caythorpe Court and learned lots of new skills! Everyone has returned to school refreshed from the half term break and Year 6 have already participated a 'Maths Mission' morning and a 'hook' day to introduce our new science topic of 'Shocking Electricity'.
The Year 6 children have continued with their 'Woodland World' lessons and are learning about fire safety.

We have arrived safely and had a fabulous start to our trip! The children have all settled well and have enjoyed their first activities.

They have already participated in a Samba dance workshop as part of this half term's geography topic about Brazil, entitled 'Carnival'.
The children have also completed a morning of 'Maths Missions' related to this topic, covering position and direction maths objectives.
Some of the children have also completed their 'Bikeability Cycle Training Course'.
There are many more exciting events panned this half term, not least the residential trip to Caythorpe Court.

Pop Art
In 6NF we have been learning about different artists. This week we have been looking at the famous artist 'Andy Warhol'. We decided to tie in Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday into our work. We hope you like our 'Pop Art'!

The Year 6 staff hope the children and their families enjoyed the half term holiday. The children have returned from the break eager to work hard and make progress.
Year 6 pupils have already participated in a 'Fit Kids' day to introduce our new Science-based topic 'Health Kick', in which they tried new and 'exotic' fruit and vegetables and participated in lots of exercise!
We have another exciting half term ahead of us, with a visit to Tesco to learn all about healthy food and cooking already planned. We are also working hard, preparing for the National Curriculum Tests in May.

The Year 6 staff hope the children and their families have had a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas. Everyone has returned to school refreshed from the holiday and Year 6 have already participated in their Raiders-themed day to introduce our new History topic about the Vikings.
We have another exciting half term ahead of us, with a theatre group and visitors already planned. We will also be working hard and beginning to prepare for the National Curriculum Tests in May.

Year 6 Autumn Term 2
The Year 6 children had an amazing time at Caythorpe Court and learnt lots of new skills! Everyone has returned to school refreshed from the half term break and Year 6 have already participated in two Maths Mission mornings, a Super Scientists day to introduce our new science topic and have started the reading buddies program with some of the younger children in KS1.
We have another exciting half term ahead of us, embarking on our new science topic, 'Let there be Light'.

Roald Dahl Day: Friday 25th September 2015
In Year 6, we focussed our Roald Dahl day on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We designed our own golden tickets, made persuasive leaflets for tours of the chocolate factory and designed our own chocolate bars and advertising campaigns. We also had great fun dressing up as Roald Dahl characters - look at our photos!

There have also been two mornings full of 'Maths Missions' for the children to enjoy. Some of the children have completed their 'Bikeability Cycle Training Course'. There are many more exciting events panned this half term, not least the residential trip to Caythorpe Court.
