Year 1 Phonic Screening

At the end Year 1 all children must complete a phonic screening check. Any child in Year 1 who does not reach the expected pass mark will resit the phonic screening check at the end of Year 2.  In the test children have to read twenty real and twenty made up (alien) words.

These are examples of the 'Phonic Screening'.

This video is for teachers undertaking the year 1 phonics screening check. It may be useful for parents to see the sorts of words children have to read.
